Textbook: We will use two books. The first is Topology, second edition by James R. Munkres. You are welcome to use instead the first edition of this book, called Topology, a first course. The second book is Algebraic Topology by Allen Hatcher. This can be downloaded for free from his website. We will mostly use Chapter 1.

Feb. 25: The first exam will be on Thursday March 6. It will cover the material up to, but not including, free groups and free products. You do not need to know the proof of the Tychonoff theorem.
