Announcements: The midterm exam will be on Wednesday, November 4. It will cover all of the material we covered in the book between Sections 3.4 and 6.2, plus the material from the lectures and homework assignments.
We skipped the following parts in the book: Prop 4.6, Thm 4.6 in Section 4.3; all of Section 4.4; Thm 4.9 and Ex. 4.14 in Section 4.5, all of Chapter 5, Def. 6.3, Thm. 6.3, Remark 6.3, and Cor. 6.1 in Section 6.2
We covered the following topics that were not in the book: The infinite version of the comparison test for infinite series, the Limit Comparison Test (3 parts, stated in the handout from Homework 8), the Squeeze theorem for function limits, the Limit Location Theorem and Function Location Theorem (from the handout in Homework 9), the definition of infinite limits for functions, and the infinite version of "comparison" for limits. We also modified the proofs of Prop. 6.3 and Prop. 6.4.

The final will cover all the material we have covered this semester, but will be more heavily weighted toward the topics covered since the last exam (Sections 6.3-8.2 plus the material from the lectures and homework assignments).
We skipped the following parts of sections 6.3-8.2: Thm 6.7, Prop 6.5, Cor. 6.4, Thm. 6.8, Thm. 7.7, the Lipschitz condition on p. 200, Lemma 8.2, Cor. 8.1, Thm. 8.5. Also, in Section 6.3, we often replaced "compact set" with "closed bounded interval".
We covered the following topics which are not in the book: The Intermediate Value Property (IVP) and the result that if f is strictly monotone on an interval I and has the IVP then f is continuous on I; the kinds of counterexamples we talked about on "crazy function day"; and the theorem from Monday that the function F(x) which is the definite integral of a function f from a to x is continuous.
