Several of you have asked me about the grant proposal that I have been working on. Here's a summary (PDF file). We won't know until next fall whether it's funded. If it is, we will start work January 1, 2005 and we will need a few undergraduates to work with us.

  • Extra Credit: How People Learn, up to 2%, due by 5:00 p.m. Friday April 23.

  • The Mathematica notebook that we used in class for solids of revolution. To use this: (1) download it to a computer that has Mathematica installed (2) open it in Mathematica (3) under the Kernel menu select Evaluation and then select Evaluate notebook. It may take a while to run. To animate the graphs, select all of the graph you want to animate (using the shift key and the mouse) and then under the Cell menu, select Animate selected graphics.

If it shows up in a browser window instead of downloading, open Mathematica (a blank notebook will appear). Go back to the browser and under the Edit menu, select Select all. Copy and paste the selection into the blank notebook. Then follow the instructions above from (3) on.

  • reading quizzes are at WebCT

  • The solutions provided here are from students in the class. These are not only correct solutions, but are meant to be examples of exemplary student work.
