Mathematics 1823-010 - Calculus I - Spring 2001

Information about Exam III

Exam III will be in the usual classroom on April 20, 2001.

It will be worth 52 points (2 extra points possible), and cover sections 4.1-4.5 and 4.9.

Circling your correct discussion section day and hour on the first page of the exam will be worth 1 point.

Only a basic, non-graphing calculator may be used. Actually, there is no need to use a calculator.

There will be emphasis on:
  1. The Mean Value Theorem.
  2. Calculation of limits as x --> infinity or x --> - infinity (plugging in values on a calculator to guess the limiting values will not receive any credit, points will only be given if mathematical reasoning is given to correctly analyze the limiting behavior).
  3. Definitions, and statements of theorems.
  4. Tools for graphing functions.

There will be one geometrically-oriented problem on Newton's method.
